'Parishechanam - Food and Prayer \"உடம்பினை முன்னம் இழுக்கென் றிருந்தேன் உடம்பினுக் குள்ளே யுறுபொருள் கண்டேன் உடம்புளே உத்தமன் கோயில்கொண் டான் என்று உடம்பினை யானிருந் தோம்புகின் றேனே\" Meaning: “I first thought the body was blemish. Then I realised that the Supreme Being existing in my body. In my body, the Supreme Being (Para Brahmam ) resides in a temple within. And hence I worship and nurture my physical body”. - Thirumoolar Thirumandhiram, 725: According to Hinduism, food is verily an aspect of Brahman (annam parabrahma swaroopam). Because it is a gift from God, it should be treated with great respect. “We eat and \'offer\' food into the fire of our bellies. Agni digests this food and the control centers in the brain are nourished by these fragrant \"vapors\". This nourishment releases the nervous impulses, which in turn release enzymes and hormones. This stimulates systemic metabolic activity so that the whole body-mind complex functions efficiently.” Once the realization that - food is prayer - sinks in, we will no more watch TV, phone or talk when we partake food. We will eat when eat. Just that!'
