'Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe German restaurant discovery platform Disco Eat has partnered with a robotics firm and popular burger chain Peter Pane to bring the \'first delivery robot\' to the German market. Currently, the robot needs to be piloted by handler who follows closely by as developers gradually ease the robots into being fully autonomous on the streets of Berlin. In approximately six months time, the robots should be able to drive up 20kmh (12mph) in the city\'s bicycle lanes to deliver food fully on their own, according to Disco Eat co-Founder Moritz Heininger. “When we think in another year, year in a half into the future, the robot will drive up to 50 km/h and be permitted to drive on the street, which will of course be a huge advantage,” Heininger said on Thursday. --- SOT, Moritz Heininger, Co-founder of Disco Eat (German): \"Our robot project brings the first delivery robot to the German market. And so we are working together with the company Teraki who makes the robots, and the innovative burger chain Peter Pane. Our customers that order food from Peter Pane through Disco Eat, and who live within a 2 kilometre radius of the restaurant can receive their order from a robot.\" SOT, Moritz Heininger, Co-founder of Disco Eat (German): \"So currently we are in a test-phase with special permission from the city of Berlin, which allows the robot to only drive up to 6 km/h. This is of course not as fast as a bicycle courier, in addition to the 1.5 kilometre radius restriction around the restaurant. But in the future our goal is for the robot to drive completely autonomously, which we estimate is around 6 months away, and also then it will drive up to 20 km/h, which is in any case as fast as a bicycle courier, and when we think in another year, year in a half into the future, the robot will drive up to 50 km/h and be permitted to drive on the street, which will of course be a huge advantage.\" C/U Disco Eat app *CUTAWAY* SOT, Moritz Heininger, Co-founder of Disco Eat (German): \"Already today the robot is 10 times as safe as a person as it is completely outfitted with sensors and cameras, which immediately recognise danger, and in doubt the robot will immediately stop, and can react much faster than a person. Currently there is still the guideline from the city that the robot can be controlled remotely, that means the robot is completely autonomous but a person is ready with a joystick who can take over.\" SOT, Mohammad, Peter Pane Berlin-Brandenburg district leader (German): \"We have our own delivery-guys, but Peter Pane is always open and looking for new things, and we found it really cool with these robots and also people really like to look at them, and so why not try out something new, it works really well, we also got more orders through it, and its just really cool to see, and the people gladly use it.\" SOT, Mohammad, Peter Pane Berlin-Brandenburg district leader (German): “The reactions are of course incredible. No one else sees a robot that somehow delivers, and also the reaction of the people when they order this, many people think, ‘ok, this cannot be’ although it says on the order ‘please deliver by robot.’ And then when the robot actually comes they just open their eyes and think ‘wow, crazy, it’s really a robot’. And this reaction is really fantastic and this alone makes it pay off.” #Berlin #Robot #Automation #DiscoEat Video ID: 20210701-054 Video on Demand: https://ruptly.tv/videos/20210701-054 Contact: cd@ruptly.tv Twitter: http://twitter.com/Ruptly Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Ruptly'
