'In Senegal, FAO and partners are working with the Ministry of Agriculture to support food producers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Female food processors and young people were the most negatively impacted by COVID-19 restrictions. The Household Food Basket initiative was started as a link between local food producers and food insecure families. The project involved more than 700 food producers, including young farmers and women food processors. In addition, 14 075 vulnerable households in rural, urban and peri-urban areas in 8 regions of the country received a kit including essential locally produced food and hygiene supplies. Thanks to initiatives like this, FAO and partners are preserving local agri-food systems and strengthening the livelihoods of vulnerable communities.
