'Government gives relief to poor, to provide 5 kg free food grains in May & June'

'The government will provide 5 kg free food grains to the poor for May and June 2021. This will cover nearly 80 crore beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). This will be over and above their entitlement of 5 kg of rice, wheat and coarse grains. This will be rolled out on the same pattern as last year’s PM Garib Kalyan Yojana. The Centre would spend more than Rs 26,000 crore on this initiative. Many MPs sought the  re-run of the scheme launched last year during the pandemic’s first wave.
