'Uttar Pradesh government has started distributing free ration to ration card holders in the state. The government is providing 5kg rice (per person, per ration card) and 1kg chana per ration card. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday announced that migrant workers, who are not yet part of the ration card system in the state they are stationed at, will be provided 5kg of grains per person and 1kg chana per family, per month for the next two months. This is expected to benefit about 8 crore migrants and cost the govt of India over 3500 crores. However, Uttar Pradesh government has been following a similar scheme since the beginning of the lockdown, where all ration card holders are getting similar quantities of grain and chana for free beyond their usual paid entitlement. But when it comes to ground reality, shop managers say there is no clarity yet on how the free system for migrants will be implemented. Watch NDTV\'s Alok Pandey\'s report for more.
