'The Meghalaya capital has been in the grip of violence after a clash broke out on May 29 following an altercation between Sikh residents in the city\'s Punjabi Lane area and Khasi drivers of state-run buses. More than ten people, including policemen and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel, were injured in the clashes. Speaking to the media, Bengaluru based coordinator of the Sikh organization, Mahendrajit Singh feels that relocation of the particular community should not take place as the Sikh community have been residing for more than 200 years in Shillong. \"For this, we are requesting our brothers to maintain total peace and order and not to create any such situation which will create communal violence or anything. We have got the assurance from the locals as well as our secretary that no steps will be taken from our end in which the disturbance will come in future,\" Singh said.
