'At Bloom 2017 we hosted a series of discussions called GIY Food Matters. One talk was called \"The Food Shame - Feeding Ireland\'s Asylum Seekers\" The system of Direct Provision in Ireland for Asylum Seekers is an unconscionable one, that punishes and harms very vulnerable people. We focus on the food aspect of the Direct Provision system, because that is our area of expertise. Food is life, it\'s love, it\'s language and it\'s family. It is more than nutrients or energy. It is culturally unique and incredibly personal and important to individuals and families. Direct Provison destroys all those links from food to family.'
